Bright Lights - Oh, Starry Night!
There are many tricks of the trade, and here I will share with you one of them…how to bring a touch of bright light to your event with the use of LED (light-emitting diode) lights made by ACOLYTE.
ACOLYTE FloraLytes™ come in all colors of the rainbow and are available in a submersible model. They can be used to light up decorative glass or marbles, floral arrangements, promotional displays, and even the night sky by hanging from Chinese lanterns or the trees. Oh, starry night!

In the pictures below, I planned the lighting for a walkway using the small LED FloraLytes tucked into and strung through real rose heads with clear fishing line. It not only created a magical starry-night feeling as the guests exited the event, but it was also beautiful while the guests arrived, because it just looked like there were pink roses hanging from the trees. The lights weren’t even noticeable. This design was a surprise for the bride and created such an amazing effect that I can’t wait to do this one again! Surprised she was…and she was all smiles!

In the picture below, I created a custom caviar station for an event in Carmel, and you can see that the ice in the square vases with floating gardenias is slightly glowing.

There is endless creativity when it comes to using ACOLYTE LED FloraLytes. Click here to view the colors and details in PDF format or visit their site at www.acolyteled.com

What’s rice got to do with it?
EVERYTHING! That is if it has always been your dream to bring the magic of illuminated rice paper lanterns to your wedding reception.
At LUNA BAZAAR you can tailor your lantern vision to perfection with their selection of varying shapes, sizes, and shades of colors such as pinks, reds, oranges, yellows, greens, blues, purples, browns, grays, whites, and blacks. Below you can get a glimpse of the colors you will find at LUNA BAZAAR.

WOW! Don’t you just love color?! As you can see, I do, since I couldn’t just choose a few and had to show them all to you!

Rice paper lanterns can be strategically placed and hung from a canopy of trees, throughout the entire ceiling of a tent, or just from the center of a tent at all different lengths using clear fishing line or ribbon to create an exulting vision for your guests.
Above is a picture demonstrating how David Wales of Alabasta Floral Design in Los Altos and myself hung yellow lanterns in the center of multiple small tents. This tricky task of hanging the lanterns requires a tall ladder, a person with an incredible sense of balance and heat tolerance (heat rises), and way more time than one would think! For these reasons, this design element should be left to the professionals. Brides have much more important things to be thinking about on their special day!

Leftover fabric and a few extra lanterns can be used to adorn the entrance of the reception to offer guests a hint of what’s to come. An example of this can be found in the picture above provided by Lea McIntosh Fine Events & Weddings.
At Luna Bazaar you are bound to find more than you bargained for! Start shopping their vast selection of rice paper products at www.lunabazaar.com.

Now you see it…
Now you don’t! It is very likely that you won’t find these crystal clear chairs that have been making a steady appearance in numerous wedding magazines at your local party rental company. So, where can you find them?
RESOURCE ONE, INC. is a custom textile manufacturing rentals and sales company who is also an authorized distributor of both the Louis and Victoria Ghost Chairs. They are the largest supplier in the US servicing the event & wedding industries. They service California through their Los Angeles Warehouse.
The Victoria Ghost Chair comes in a variety of colors to include Crystal Clear, Smoke, Orange, Emerald Green, and Red/Orange. Additionally, the Louis Ghost Chair comes in three different colors and they can all be seen in the picture below: Crystal Clear, Jet Black, and Amber/Orange.
One of my favorite things about the Louis Ghost chair is the designer himself, Philippe Starck. I am a huge fan of his designs and trend setting style that he brings to the Interior Design world and now this luxury has been affordably extended for use in our events and weddings! Lucky us!

These jelly beans aren’t for eating!
Because they’re for decorating! You won’t see any more of those overly used and seen everywhere glass marbles in any of my event or wedding designs. Instead, I use small, very smooth, high-polished pieces of glass referred to as Jelly Bean Glass newly created by AMERICAN SPECIALTY GLASS. Jelly Bean Glass comes in a variety of colors and sizes and below I have highlighted a few colors…Raspberry, Strawberry, & Green Apple. Mmmmm…Great names of yummy flavors, but remember these Jelly Beans aren’t for eating!

To give some of you DIY brides a start with ideas on how you can use this product, below is an example of how I made use of AMERICAN SPECIALTY Jelly Bean Glass in one of my recent designs. As you can see, they were used to fill the bottoms of tall vases with candles and blue glass pearls as an accent. Too, they can be used in floral arrangements to replace those dreadful, overused marbles. You can even hide waterproof LED lights tucked within the glass to lend a magical glow to your designs. Information about the LED lights will be posted here on the wedding chat soon, so keep checking back!

Clearly very creative when it comes to ICE
Looking to WOW your guests with a show-stopping ice sculpture? That’s right…Who you gonna call? Clearly, there is a first choice when it comes to creating the icy cold masterpiece you might have in mind.
CLEAR MEMORIES is an innovator in the field of ice carving. In 1995, both Jeff Foley and Dave Peterson, with their extensive backgrounds in the culinary arts, found themselves living in Northern California and working tirelessly in the food and beverage industry. Then finally, as lifelong friends, they decided to follow their passion for ice sculpting and founded CLEAR MEMORIES. The venture began as a small business providing ice sculptures to local catering companies, hotels, and restaurants. Quickly and steadily, their reputation grew as sculptors who provide quality work and professionalism.
Today, CLEAR MEMORIES owns six Clinebell block-making machines that produce twenty-four, three-hundred-pound, crystal-clear blocks of ice per week. All work is done in a twenty-by-forty-foot freezer studio. Their innovative ideas have placed them head and shoulders above the competition, creating masterpieces like no other company in the world.
Jeff and Dave go “outside the box” to find the most efficient means to create their work, consistently looking for new ways to create, set-up, and utilize ice. Truly, they set the standards; everyone else follows. Below are some examples of their creativity and collaborations with Lea McIntosh Fine Events that might inspire you to be creative, too.

A custom ice sculpture featuring a custom logo was created to serve Ossetra caviar, prawn shooters, and oysters on the half shell. This display wowed the crowd, and even took best of show at a Gentry Magazine gala!

A close-up of the Prawn Shooters. Mmmm! This picture is for John Vink, an Apple iphone engineer who loves his PRAWNS. In fact, he had two ice bowls full! Check out these ice bowls, made by CLEAR MEMORIES, on The Flirty Guide. John had these made for his fill of shrimp at his own wedding last year to Stacie Tamaki, founder of The Flirty Guide. John calls them shrimp. I call them PRAWNS!

This ice bar was created for a client whose sole success (so to speak) is in shoes! I was asked to produce a New Year’s Eve party with a shoe theme throughout. I gave them SHOES!

But not only did I give them shoes, I used their own shoe design and made it into an ice luge! What is an ice luge (lo̵̅o̅z̸h)? An ice luge is a functioning ice sculpture that chills beverages by pouring the drinks down an ice slide or through an ice funnel. Back to the shoes…
Below is a picture of the shoes I gave to the talented team at CLEAR MEMORIES. As you can see, it looks like the real thing, but in ICE!

This is a sketch that CLEAR MEMORIES provided to give me an idea of what the shoe bar was going to look like. There are no ice projects too over-the-top for this talented team.
